Sister Lynne ends her battle with cancer

Left to Right: Hallie Gale, Lynne Gale, Tina Gale (Lynne and daughters)

After a courageous battle with lung cancer, my sister Lynne Gale passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, age 52.  She never smoked, so her cancer must have been an environmental and genetic problem.

Lynne served others. She embraced opportunities to serve her second family--her ward family, in the LDS Church. She enjoyed visiting friends and family, always finding time in her schedule to make others feel the love she had for them. She taught others to sew, quilt, cross stitch, and crochet. She tried to teach everyone to iron, a hobby of hers, and her greatest stress relief. She was a closet gamer, for a while her kids could not match her skills at Dr. Mario, Solitaire, Bejeweled and Sudoku. Christmas was her chance to find special gifts for all of her loved ones, making it one of her favorite times. She loved putting puzzles together with her parents and children while sharing memories and taking special care of them. She had a special bond with her parents and taking care of them was a sacred hobby in her life.  She wrote poetry as a hobby, and made her entire life a poem written for her Savior as an example of Christ-like love

Lynne was always the sibling who would try to make peace, and keep the rest of us happy. She was always helping me when I was very young with things like homework, getting something to eat, and chores. She was always loving and never ashamed of her smaller siblings in front of friends.  She was always happy to help take care of her younger brothers, and I have always felt nothing but mother-like love from my two older sisters.  Maybe not exactly like mother, Lynne taught me how to make french fries when I was probably too young to be near hot oil.  That is something Mom might have waited a little later to do.  But we needed nourishment during those late night movies.  And Lynne liked her potatoes sliced very thin.  Oh yeah, knives for cutting french fries at a very young age, another thing Mom would have waited on.

Lynne's courage inspired me this last year.  She was always happy to hear good news about my fight with cancer, even when her fight wasn't going well.  She lived vicariously through the happiness of others, and even under the worst of circumstances, good fortune in the lives of her loved ones gave her infinite joy.  She is surely in the right place, where angels rejoice in the good news and eternal plan of Salvation. I will miss my sister very much. Love you Lynne.
